Further to my earlier review. all of the issues raised have been resolved positively by JVB personnel.
It seems that then problem was not with my machine, but with the TV that I was testing it with. I had telephoned and e-mailed for assistance, without apparent response, but, when I was able to get through by phone, Bas could not have been more helpful. He had written with suggestions, but the email had not got through. He sent me a copy while I was on the phone by way of proof.
BAs agreed that I should send then player to him so that the installation could be checked. I did this, and he was able to confirm quickly that the installation had been carried out correctly. The inspection was carried out free of charge and JVB picked up the return carriage.
When I received the player, I tried it out immediately with a different TV (a five year old SONY) and it worked perfectly on both US NTSC discs and British PAL discs.
I am now delighted with JVB, their product and service, and will be buying a second region-free player from them for my main system. It is such a pleasure to be able to view my extensive collection of British PAL DVDs again!
I would recommend them wholeheartedly now.

They could make it more obvious that certain players do not convert PAL to NTSC despite being fitted with a region-free chip.
